“Everything” and “Nothing” on the illy Art Collection’s - New Artist Coffee Can
March 18, 2010
Trieste, March 18, 2010—illy extends the illy Art Collection line with two new limited edition designer coffee cans decorated by Tobias Rehberger. Rehberger won the Leone d’Oro at the last Venice Visual Arts Biennial and designed an illy Art Collection cup in 2009. He tries out different expressive instruments inspired by the language of design, architecture and cinema with the “Everything” and “Nothing” coffee cans.
The illy Art Collection project began in 1992, based on the concept that art could enter one’s life through small everyday objects. In 2006, after more than 70 series of collectable cups designed by major international artists and young talents, illy designer coffee cans were added to the project. “Everything” and “Nothing” by Tobias Rehberger are the latest editions in the series, which has, in the past four years, produced coffee cans by James Rosenquist, Michael Lin, Sebastião Salgado and Michelangelo Pistoletto.
The 250 gr. cans will be sold on illyusa.com for $14; “Everything” will be available beginning in June and “Nothing” in the fall.
Tobias Rehberger (Esslingen, 1966) is among the most successful young German artists. Fame arrived in the 90s for his reinterpretation of internal and external space through the language of design, light, art and architecture, resulting in new shapes and new means of fulfillment. Rehberger has presented his works at the Venice Bienniale, Berlin Bienniale, at Manifesta in Luxembourg, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and at Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
